Where can some one buy a good performance clutch for 99 Tracker 1.6l 5 speed. I just want to prepare for the inevitable. Thanks

aftermarket stock clutch will work for you just fine no need to waste your money on a high dollar performance clutch that you will use up faster than a quality aftermarket clutch.

I don't drive a stick...I know that there are performance clutches though...what do they do to make them "performance"

a softer friction materal that will hold faster or a harder material with a overly strong spring that puts more clamping force on the clutch disc and flywheel , has a tendency to go through flywheels faster.

When I rebuilt the 5spd in my 99 2.0L I put in an Exedy clutch. Picked it up on eBay for about $200. Easy to install, and very noticable change in grip. The pedal stifness didn't change too much but when it grabbed, it GRABBED. May have also led to the grenading of my tranny.. lol.

Brands to stick with for AM/OEM: Exedy, Sachs, Luk, Beck & Arnley, Valeo. Be careful with Daikin/Exedy. I went through two of them in 2 months/10,000 miles in my Elantra. the shop ended up putting a Sachs clutch in, haven't had any problems.
